Franklin Square, NY Colonial HomeFranklin Square is a Hamlet in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, NY.

Franklin Square came to be when Andrew Hoffman, founded the Hamlet in 1870 after German immigrants began re-locating to the area in the 1850's. He was a farmer and a businessman. Mr. Hoffman also founded Elmont, New York, to the west of Franklin Square. It is also said that the first Catholic Mass celebrated in Long Island was in Andrew Hoffman's Franklin Square home. However, this is an un-documented, and un-proven piece of history. Well-known residents have included author, Alice Hoffman.

Today, Franklin Square is most well-known for it's highly-regarded School Distict, Franklin Square Union Free School District #17.

Franklin Square, NY Cape Cod Style HomeThere is a fast growing Jewish population in Franklin Square and the surrounding area and the Hamlet is served by several synagogues: The Young Israel of West Hempstead, Chabad, Congregation Anshei Shalom of West Hempstead, Congregation Eitz Chayim of Dogwood Park (on the Franklin Square border), West Hempstead Synagogue Zichron Kedoshim (on the Franklin Square border) and a Conservative synagogue established by six Franklin Square families in 1951: The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead.

Frankin Square also has a very large Italian-American population, with over 40 percent of its residents claiming Italian ancestry.

Franklin Square is predominantly Single Family Detached Colonials, Cape Cods and Ranch Style homes. Along Franklin Avenue is Fernwood Townhouses, which are Colonial Style Attached Co-ops. There are a total of 28 units located in this gated Co-op Community.
