Real Estate For Sale in East Meadow, NY  East Meadow is a Hamlet in the Town of Hempstead on Long Island, and according to the CDP has a total area of 6.3 square miles.
East Meadow's history dates back to the 17th Century. In 1643 a small group of Colonists from Connecticut crossed the Long Island sound and created a new settlement on Long Island. They purchased the land in East Meadow from Native Americans and originally named it Hempstead Town. In 1655 the colonists began using the land for grazing Cattle and Sheep.  Unfortunately, there are no meadows left in East Meadow today. This is due to the development of the area post World War II. Today, East Meadow is known as having the tallest building on Long Island, the Nassau University Medical Center, on Carman Avenue. Additionally, East Meadow is home to the Nassau County Jail, also on Carman Avenue.
Jailhouse and Medical center aside, East Meadow boasts a thriving and highly regarded school District, East Meadow Union Free School District #3, which it graciously shares with the residents of Salisbury. East Meadow is predominantly comprised of single family residences that are usually Capes, Ranches, Splits or Colonials.
