The Whitestone branch of the Long Island Rail Road offered convenient commuter service until the Depression. In the 1960's when large apartment buildings were erected east of 162nd Street and on the shore of the East River, on land by then considered part of the neighborhood.

Beechhurst is part of the 109th police precinct and is part of Queens Community Board 7. The Q15 via 150th Street to Beechhurst provides access to and from the Flushing-Main Street station on the IRT Flushing Line.

There are many mansions and "McMansions" along the north shore of eastern Queens in Beechhurst, as well as some luxury Co-ops and Condos. The neighborhood is predominantly Colonials, Splits and Ranches. There are very few Cape Cod style homes here.
